As well as the more specialised techniques described below, we also have extensive experience in sample processing, multiplex assays and many other techniques. Hence, almost any general biochemical or cell biology protocols can be readily implemented in our in-house laboratory.
Biomarker discovery
Biomarker research is not new, but with the cost of clinical trials rising all of the time, the use of biomarkers to reduce the cost of clinical studies, validate your animal models and reduce time-to-market is growing rapidly. We at Total Scientific have extensive experience in all aspects of biomarker research, from identification of the biomarker using ‘omics technology through independent assay design, development, optimisation and validation to multi-site clinical studies designed to validate or test biomarkers.
Clinical studies
Navigating the maze of regulations and requirements in planning a new clinical study can be daunting. All of our clinical project managers are trained in the implementation of GCP and in complying with the EU Clinical Trials Directive (2001/20/EC), which means that we make sure that the study you require is turned from the initial stages of planning into reality with the minimum of inconvenience on your part. And of course, throughout this process your dedicated project manager will liaise with you to ensure that the final design is geared to answer the question you want answered. Assay development
Often the next stage after discovery of a biomarker, assay development may be seen as an easier stage of a biomarker programme. However, there is a big difference between the development of a new assay and a good new assay. At Total Scientific, we have extensive experience in assay development, including multiplex assays, and are able to bring all of this experience to bear on any problem you may have.
Immunology
Inflammation is at the heart of many of the key health problems worldwide. Almost whatever disease you are interested in, be it heart disease, cancer or infectious diseases, you will need to have a core understanding of the methods and analysis of immunological experiments. This is where Total Scientific can provide you with either advice on what you should be doing through to performing the experiments for you and analysing the data.
Data management and biostatistics
One of the less glamarous parts of biomarker discovery and clinical studies is the data management. However, that does not make it any less important. Just how are you going to manage all of that clinical data that is being collated from different sources? How are you going to store it? Validate it? Use it? At Total Scientific we have seven years experience in the production of custom FileMaker databases for use in clinical trials and other similar laboratory applications.
In addition to data management services, we can provide custom bio-analytical or statistical services, including conventional statistical analysis or multivariate chemometric analysis of datasests with dozens or hundreds of variables.
